On July 31, 2008 Alex Beltram expected to support a review meeting with the Glen Research Center (GRC) Safety and Mission Assurance Director, Tom Hartline. As the meeting began, and Alex was preparing to present his findings, Tom confessed that Alex was not there that afternoon to provide status. Instead, Tom was pleased to present one of NASA's most coveted S&MA awards to Alex: the Quality and Safety Achievement Recognition (QASAR) Award. The For decades, the QASAR Program has promoted quality, safety, leadership, productivity, performance, teamwork, and improvement throughout NASA. The award recognizes only one individual or group of government and contractor employees at each Center who have demonstrated exemplary performance in contributing to the quality and/or safety of products, services, processes, or management programs and activities.
Alex Beltram earned his QASAR Award for supporting hazard related testing associated with the GRC Fluids and Combustion Facility (FCF) software, including the review and development of test procedures designed to exercise all software related hazard controls. Mr. Hartline noted that Alex's efforts have "contributed greatly to the safety of both the FCF flight system and the FCF ground support equipment. [Alex has] further played a key role in the overall FCF risk management tracking system for both the FCF and its initial payloads."
Just as Alex was prepared to put forth his best effort in what he thought would be a technical meeting on July 31, his continued outstanding work ethic and contributions to hazard reviews and testing ensure the continued success of significant space program elements. Congratulations, Alex!
