Our Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA) Quality Engineer, Donald (Don) Dobravolsky, received the Astronauts Personal Achievement Award - the Silver Snoopy - for his role in identifying process problems within the manufacturing and quality areas of the Marshall Space Flight Center Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS) program. In his support, Don ensured that manufactured and procured parts of ECLSS hardware met the design requirements. He also provided mentoring support by working with young design engineers to incorporate producibility in their designs that helped to eliminate manufacturing mistakes/rework, which is a more cost-effective approach for designing MSFC ECLSS hardware.
As a key member of the MSFC team working to produce the Space Station Recycle Filter Tank Assembly (RFTA) welding and production problems, Don helped ensure that MSFC met delivery dates for shipments to the Station Station. He also supported the post-flight failure investigation of the Fluid Control Pump Assembly (FCPA) and was instrumental in supporting the ECLSS distillation assembly production and rework at MSFC to meet accelerated delivery schedules. MSFC relies on Don for his unique expertise in quality assurance and his manufacturing advice, as well as his ability to ensure that the quality of MSFC ECLSS hardware is raised to a new level.
Don Dobravolsky will receive his award at the Silver Snoopy awards ceremony on September 28, 2011. Congratulations, Don!
